Rustic Cross Marker Placed In Bremond Cemetery

Rustic Cross Marker Placed In Bremond CemeterySt. Mary’s Cemetery records show that there were some members of the Marszalek family buried in the cemetery in the early 1900’s. There are no markers still standing for their graves. One of the Marszalek’s without a marker is the great grandfather of well-known Polish musician Brian Marshall. The others are his great uncles and aunts.

On Monday, Marshall and two of his friends came to Bremond to set firmly in the ground a cross made of metal in the old part of the cemetery. In the center of the cross there is a big heart that has MARSZALEK engraved on top and the first names and year of death of the deceased members of the family with no markers. At the bottom of the heart it says “Not Forgotten”. Marshall said it is likely only wooden crosses were placed at the graves when they were buried and over time the wood deteriorated. With gracious respect Father Yu approved the request of Marshall to put the cross in the cemetery. The cross was made by Brian Zievert (center) and it was designed so it would blend in with the markers in the oldest part of the cemetery. Marshall complained about how hard it was to dig the hole in the dry dirt and added “we didn’t find anything.”.
