It’s been a long time since Anderson Texas has received any significant amount of rain but on Sunday, October 9, 2011, the day of St. Stanislaus Catholic Churches 57th annual homecoming bazaar, the skies opened up and the rain continued for much of the day. The good soaking rain was a welcome sight and it didn’t stop the die-hard bazaar fans from having a good time. The day began with a Holy Mass celebrated by pastor Fr. JoJo Cal-Ortiz and a blessing in the parish hall.

October is Polish American Heritage Month and after a long, hot, dry Texas summer, it’s time to get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather we traditionally have in October. There are plenty of festivals and other activities going on this month and here’s a list of things to do to celebrate your Polish heritage.
The 48th Annual St. Cyril and Methodius Slavic Heritage Festival was held on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on E. Whitney in Houston. The morning began with a traditional Slavic Mass honoring Sts. Cyril and Methodius. At noon, there was a welcoming ceremony for the Slavic Communities of Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Croatia along with the singing of the United States and each participating countries national anthems.

After a successful launch party with electronic music geared to the younger crowd on Friday, Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church in Houston Texas began their annual Dożynki or Polish Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 17, 2011 with a grand opening showing of the American, Polish and Texas flags and the singing of the national anthems.

On Sunday morning, September 18, 2011, the second day of the annual Polish Harvest Festival, Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church held a very special Dożynki Mass. Dożynki is a traditional Polish Harvest Festival that dates back for many centuries in Poland. It is a feast to celebrate the end of the harvest for the farmers.

The Jozwiak family and friends met at St. Stanislaus Community Center in Chappell Hill, Texas the afternoon of September 10, 2011 for their very special 50th annual family reunion. The large crowd enjoyed fun, food, music and fellowship throughout the day beginning with a pot luck Polish lunch cooked by family members. At 2 pm, a special reunion Mass was celebrated by Fr. Józef Musiol and held in the beautiful old St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Fr. Józef gave a wonderful homily complete with a Polish history lesson and Mike Addicks, Brian Marshal, Jakub Marshall and Dr. Jim Mazurkiewicz played and sang Polish hymns during the Mass.

A large crowd of people came to Chappell Hill Texas on Sunday, September 4, 2011 for St. Stanislaus Catholic Church’s 74th annual homecoming bazaar. A delicious catered barbecue dinner from Carl’s Barbecue was served beginning at 11am along with plenty of cold beer and soft drinks. There were Grocery, Ham and Sausage and Cake booths along with bingo for the adults and a Toy Booth and other activities for the kids. The live auction with lots of great items was held at 2pm.
