
There are lots of events scheduled in Texas for the last holiday weekend of the summer, most noteably the church bazaars on the Sunday before Labor Day. It’s hard to decide which ones to attend, but here’s several of them that relate to our Polish Texan heritage.

We are having a Polish Birthday “Polski Urodziny” party at our house on Saturday, August 14 from 6:30 p.m. until 12 midnight. Anyone that is interested in Polish music, food and fellowship is invited to attend. At Polski Dzien 2010, the Bremond Historical Society released a new DVD called Pierogi Palooza – A Polish Pierogi Primer. The 51 minute video features Doris Bulgawich Rekieta and Frances Szymanski Robertson, two well known ladies from Bremond who have been making pierogi for many years. There are three sections to the video, the first two have Doris and Francis each showing the viewer in detail how they make pierogi. The third section is a video of St. Mary’s Altar Society making over 1000 pierogi for Polski Dzien 2006.

The Bremond Chamber of Commerce is busy getting everything ready for the large crowd that will come to celebrate Bremond’s rich Polish heritage at Polski Dzien (Polish Day) XXIII on Friday and Saturday, June 25 & 26, 2010. Friday’s events include the Polish Day Beauty Pageant for girls and boys to be held at the Bremond ISD cafetorium starting at 7:00 PM with entertainment provided by Nashville recording artist, Becky Lanham.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stoneham, Texas will be hosting their annual homecoming bazaar on Sunday, May 30, 2010 on the church grounds. St. Joseph Catholic Church was established in 1909 by a group of Polish-speaking immigrants from the Grimes Prairie, Stoneham and Plantersville areas.
Activities include a delicious barbecue dinner, booths and games for adults and children, raffle, live auction and live music.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski and some of the country’s highest military and civilian leaders died on Saturday when the presidential plane crashed as it came in for a landing in thick fog in western Russia, killing 97.
Russian and Polish officials said there were no survivors on the 26-year-old Tupolev, which was taking the president, his wife and staff to events marking the 70th anniversary of the massacre in Katyn forest of thousands of Polish officers by Soviet secret police.
