St. Joseph’s Bazaar In Stoneham, Texas

sjbazaar07-007.jpgSt. Joseph Catholic Church in Stoneham, Texas held their annual homecoming bazaar on Sunday, May 27, 2007.

Lunch was served beginning at 11:00 am with great self serve barbecue pork and beef with all of the fixings along with home made deserts and ice tea. If you went home hungry, it was your own fault. I’ve been going to St. Joseph’s bazaar for at least 15 years now and their barbecue has always been some of the best in the state.

History of St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Waverly

2009 Photo of St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Waverly, TexasThe Polish nation was a peace-loving nation, hard-working, religious and a nation of farmers. They were warred on by the Germans, Austrians, Russians, and the Scanddanavians, because there was always an abundance of food, livestock and fodder much needed by invading armies.

So, those who lived in Poland more than three centuries ago had seen their country partitioned twice in their life time, and had no hope left either for themselves or for their children. They heard of a new country, a free country struggling in its history, torn by its own troubles yet showing a promise of better things to come.

Many people are not aware that Polish music is or ever was alive in the Texas region.  Prior to 1980 there were only nine recordings in existence representing the Texas Polish style.  Six cuts were by Steve Okonski who represented the Robertson County style ; three others were by Randy and the Rockets with well-liked fiddler Pete Kwiatkowski who represented the Washington County style.  But I jump ahead of myself.
