Gary Kubiak Enters First Year Of The Job He Was Made To DoOn Aug. 2, 1976, Gary Kubiak walked off a plane and into the rest of his life. Just 14 years old, he absorbed the enormousness of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium, the exhilaration, the screaming fans, the red and yellow seats, the white scoreboard staring from above the top deck as if it were a robot raising its hand.

Kubiak caught his breath as he jogged onto the field for the preseason game. He knew how lucky he was to be a ballboy for the Houston Oilers, throwing training camp passes to Earl Campbell and Mike Barber at Sam Houston State. The players treated him like one of their own, knowing he was a rising high school football star. But this — well, this was different.

Tekla Klebetnica Folk Group To Visit Texas Again

The Tekla Klebetnica band from Poland to visit TexasAfter a very sucessful tour of Texas last year, four members of the Polish folk group Tekla Klebetnica, Zygmunt Czupryn, Anna Adamowska, Wojciech Świerczyna, and Marcin Bobak will be coming back to Texas in September as guests of Bryan residents Jim and Kathy Mazurkiewicz. The talented group came in second place in “Mam Talent” or “Got Talent” in Warsaw last year competing with contestants from Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia and other countries. They were the only musical group to make the finals with over 8,000 different performances that originally applied for the contest.

2014 Houston Dozynki Polish Harvest Festival Scheduled For September 12 – 14

2014 Houston Dozynki Polish Harvest FestivalThe 6th annual traditional Dożynki or Polish Harvest Festival will be held at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church in Houston, Texas on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 12, 13 and 14, 2014. The festival starts on Friday evening from 4 pm to 10 pm and continues on Saturday and Sunday with two full days of live Polish music, dancing, folk programs, a dożynki parade with traditional harvest celebration and thanksgiving, national costumes, dożynki wreath, sharing of bread and other entertainment. There will also be activities for the kids, a silent auction and arts, craft and gift booths. Pierogi, bigos, gołąbki and other traditional Polish food will be served along with Texas barbecue and an assortment of delicious deserts. Soft drinks, beer and wine will also be available.

27th Annual Polski Dzien (Polish Day) In Bremond TexasThe Bremond Chamber of Commerce is busy getting ready for the huge crowd that will come to celebrate Bremond’s rich Polish heritage at Polski Dzien (Polish Day) XXVII on Friday and Saturday, June 27 – 28, 2014. This year’s festival will feature lots of delicious Polish food, cold piwo, entertainment by the Dance Group Wawel and plenty of good Polish music by Polska Kapela and Brian Marshall and friends.

Over the years, Polish immigrants and their descendants spread to many other places of Texas such as Houston, Bremond and many others. Some of the most recent immigrants – including the ones who came to the States in the 80s and later, settled also in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area.

St. Joseph In Stoneham Annual Bazaar On Sunday May 25th

2014 St. Joseph In Stoneham Texas BazaarSt. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stoneham, Texas will be hosting their annual homecoming bazaar on Sunday, May 25, 2014 on the church grounds. St. Joseph Catholic Church was established in 1909 by a group of Polish-speaking immigrants from the Grimes Prairie, Stoneham and Plantersville areas.

Activities include a delicious barbecue dinner, booths and games for adults and children, raffle, live auction and live country and Polish music by Bill Mock and the Hwy 105 Band and Brian Marshall and friends.
