Back To Back Festivals In Houston

Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church will host back-to-back ethnic festivals on Saturday and Sunday. Dożynki – Polish Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009, from 10 am – 10pm and the 46th annual St. Cyril & Methodius Slavic Heritage Festival will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2009 from 10am – 6pm. Both festivals will be held on the church grounds at 1731 Blalock Dr. Houston, TX 77080. Here’s a quick rundown on the two festivals.

Dozynki – 2009 Polish Harvest Festival

This is the first time a traditional Dozynki or Polish Harvest Festival has been held in Houston, Texas. Throughout the day, there will be Polish music, dancing, folk programs, a Harvest Festival Wreath & Bread Ceremony and other entertainment. Pierogi, bigos, golabki and other traditional Polish food will be served along with sausage on a stick, hot dogs, barbecue, funnel cake and an assortment of other good deserts. Soft drinks, beer and wine will also be available. There will also be a silent auction and raffle.

St. Cyril & Methodius Slavic Heritage Festival

This is the 46th annual Houston Slavic Heritage Festival but the first time it has been held at Our Lady Of Czestochowa church. The festival starts with a Mass at 10am with Mons. Slawomir Oder followed by a parade and lots of entertainment throughout the day. There will also be good slavic food and arts and crafts and Slavic heritage booths.
