James Smock

James SmockJames Smock has always held an interest in his Polish ancestors and heritage. He is a native Houstonian with Polish roots in Bremond, Marlin and New Waverly, Texas.

James is a past president of the Polish Genealogical Society of Texas and was the founding webmaster of the PGST website. He also served as the Surname Index Coordinator from 1994 - 2000.

With a lifelong passion for photography, James can often be found with a camera around his neck. In addition to photographing family events and his grandchildren, he is the church photographer for St. Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stoneham. 2010 Christmas Party At The Lazy Mule In Chappell HillOn Saturday night, December 11, 2010 a group of Chappell Hill and Brenham natives and their friends celebrated the season with a Polish Christmas party at the Lazy Mule Saloon in Chappell Hill Texas. Daniel Cendalski and Randy Reets with the Daniel and the Country Boys band entertained the crowd with a mix of old time Polish, country and even a little rock and roll. There was plenty of good food to eat and lots of cold piwo to drink as the lively crowd spent the evening dancing, talking and laughing.

Polish Heritage Dozynki Thanksgiving Mass In Chappell Hill TexasOn Sunday, November 21, 2010, St. Stanislaus Catholic parish held a special Polish Heritage Thanksgiving (Dozynki) Mass and celebration at the historic church in Chappell Hill, Texas. This unique event combined two well know traditions; the American Thanksgiving and the Polish Dozynki or harvest celebration which dates back to the middle ages. The stated goal of the celebration was to bring people together in the spirit of gratitude and appreciation to God for all we have been given.

Polish Heritage Celebration At The Texas Renaissance FestivalSaturday, November 20, 2010 was dubbed Barbarian Invasion Day at the Texas Renaisance Festival in Plantersville, Texas but when the grand parade started, there was something a bit more civilized amidst the hoards of barbarians. Three brightly dressed young ladies carrying the Polonia Restaurant banner led the Polish contingent, followed by a large group of people dressed in traditional Polish folk attire and carrying Polish flags.
