James Smock

James SmockJames Smock has always held an interest in his Polish ancestors and heritage. He is a native Houstonian with Polish roots in Bremond, Marlin and New Waverly, Texas.

James is a past president of the Polish Genealogical Society of Texas and was the founding webmaster of the PGST website. He also served as the Surname Index Coordinator from 1994 - 2000.

With a lifelong passion for photography, James can often be found with a camera around his neck. In addition to photographing family events and his grandchildren, he is the church photographer for St. Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stoneham. Many of his photographs can be found on the church website or his photography gallery.

Polski Dzien Polish Days 2011 In Bremond TexasBremond Texas, known as the Polish Capital of Texas, celebrated their 26th annual Polski Dzien or Polish Day and the 25th annual Polish Pickle Run on Saturday, June 22, 2013. People with Polish roots from all over Texas attended the event. The main Polski Dzien celebration is held on Saturday, but there was plenty of activity in downtown Bremond on Friday evening including a free street dance with music by Jerry Haisler and the Melody 5 and live rock, folk and country music with Denise Gouge and friends at their warehouse in downtown Bremond.

2013 Homecoming Bazaar At St. Joseph’s In Stoneham

2013 St. Joseph Catholic Church In Stoneham Texas Annual BazaarSt. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stoneham, Texas which was established in 1909 by Grimes County Polish immigrants, held their annual homecoming bazaar on Sunday, May 26, 2013. Bazaar day started with a special Mass celebrated by Fr. Ben Zientek at 10:30 am in the beautiful old church. Fr. Ben, a Washington County native, recently celebrated his 55th anniversary of ordination. At 11:00 am, workers started serving a delicious barbecue pork and beef dinner with all the fixings including a wide array of homemade deserts and cold ice tea.

2013 St. Joseph In Stoneham Texas BazaarSt. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stoneham, Texas will be hosting their annual homecoming bazaar on Sunday, May 26, 2013 on the church grounds. St. Joseph Catholic Church was established in 1909 by a group of Polish-speaking immigrants from the Grimes Prairie, Stoneham and Plantersville areas.

2013 Seventh Annual Polish Festival In Houston TexasThe Good Lord blessed the people at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church with two days of really nice spring weather as the church held their 7th annual Polish Festival on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5, 2013 on the church grounds in the Spring Branch area of Houston.
